Welcome
Did you know that one of Southville’s oldest stone buildings is ear-marked for demolition?
Plans are being made to demolish the buildings on Cooperage Lane and build over 100 flats.
The Cooperage Group is a group of local people concerned over the scale of the development, loss of local employment space, and increased pressure on parking.
What’s going to happen?
No planning application has been made yet, although the developers have submitted two pre-planning applications so far. (Pre-planning enquiries can be made before the submission of a planning application, in order to gain an informal view as to whether a proposal is acceptable or not in planning terms.)
The first pre-planning application was shown to public in February 2007 which included three five-storey buildings, the city planners are reported not to have liked it. This scheme fronted onto Coronation Road (171—178), which is in a conservation area. The scheme also included the building last used as Enterprise car hire.
A second round pre-planning application has been submitted, although this hasn’t been shown to public, city planners are also reported not to have liked it.
